Working Well Together Campaign

WWT South West looks at breakthrough agreement.

The South West Working Well Together campaign to improve health and safety met for an AGM plus planning meeting at HSE Offices Bristol on 24th November. Richard Thorne of Provelio (pictured ) took over the role of Chair from Ron Willers of FMB. Andrew Kingscott HSE gave special thanks to Ron for his dedication and for bringing increased understanding of the challenges facing the small local construction company.
The meeting covered the breakthrough agreement between HSE and the Building Control Alliance (LABC). HSE are pursuing a significantly closer relationship with all those who carry out the Building Control function (i.e. not just LABC but all companies who inspect for Building control) inclusive of new arrangements for reporting serious concerns. This means that anyone who is carrying out construction work under building control inspection by any surveyor from any organisation may be subject to further investigation where there are matters of evident concern. Please read the report for further details at www.hse.gov.uk/construction/resources/workingtogether.pdf
The meeting also looked at:
- DVDs for clients for Asbestos H&S being developed by CESW in partnership with HSE B&NES, Devon CC and Birmingham City Council (a general client awareness H&S DVD produced with B&NES, Devon CC and CESW is now available from www.buildsw.org.uk/clientsdvds
- The new regional initiative to provide all micro sized companies with a once per year up-date with LABC BRE HSE and CESW in partnership.
- Plans for a May conference for regional health and safety professionals.
- CPD training for designers on the top ten tips for design safety currently planned with RIBA – further CPD events to be offered via other construction institutes (Note: DVDs for design health and safety CPD produced as a WWT project with Constructing Excellence South West are now free to download from Gleeds tv).
