What is WESCON?

The West of England Sustainable Construction Network (WESCON) was set up in 2007 to promote sustainability in the planning, design and construction of buildings across the West of England. The group is non commercial and brings together the four local authorities in the West of England sub region (Bath and North East Somerset, Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire), together with professional associations and sustainability experts.

WESCON provides a forum for discussion and innovation in sustainable building design and construction, helping us guide and respond to the rapid development in policy and technology in this field. We meet quarterly, promote events, and are working on a set of case studies. Past discussion topics have included: building regulations, sustainability and conservation; progress with Local Development Frameworks; the work of the UK Green Building Council, and Forum for the Future’s ‘Refit West’

The group is linked to Future Foundations, the regional organisation which was set up in 2001 with the aim of making sustainable building the norm across the South West.

Current members of WESCON include:
  • The Architecture Centre, Bristol
  • Chartered Institute of Building Services Engineers
  • Constructing Excellence
  • The Green Register
  • National Self Build Association
  • Royal Institute of British Architects
  • Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors
  • Royal Town Planning Institute
  • UK Green Building Council
  • University of the West of England
