Survival of the Retro-fittest
A dramatic effect on all of us
The realisation that all buildings urgently need to reduce their carbon emissions will have a dramatic effect on all of us.
Work to improve the energy efficiency of existing buildings is known as ‘retro-fitting’; the UK Government currently supports a research programme called Retrofit for the Future, run by the Technology Strategy Board, to determine the most effective retrofitting techniques.
The designer of that programme, Dr Neil Morgan will be the keynote speaker at Cornwall Sustainable Building Trust (CSBT)event:
“Survival of the Retro-fittest” Conference
October 16 at the Eden Project.
Also presenting will be Dr Brenda Boardman-Emeritus Fellow- Environmental Change Institute, Dr Boardman will explain how this can be achieved in her paper: Home Truths.
New homes but anti-social behaviour
In some areas of our region we have brand new homes but considerable anti social behaviour. It has been shown that people actually prefer to live in substandard homes where there is a good community spirit and a safe environment.
All that we construct must add to societal and community value. We cannot build a better South West simply according to narrow commercial factors. We must look to enhance the health and well being of our communities. In the coming months Future Foundations will explore and inform further in the area of Sustainable Communities. Read more
