Lean Construction
You could apply Lean tools in your business to improve performance and save money.
If your profit levels are under threat it is a lot smarter to eliminate wasteful practices and costs on your existing projects rather than taking on extra projects and just working harder with the same management team.
Here are the 3 key steps:
- Identify what adds ‘Value’ to the project – concrete placed, roof tiles fixed, i.e. areas completed that you will get paid for
- Identify ‘Support activity’ - this could be necessary activity such as scaffolding or temporary roads
- Identify & Eliminate ‘The 8 Wastes’:
- Transport – unnecessary
- Inventory – materials, tools
- Motion – ergonomics
- Waiting – materials, tools, info, other trades
- Overproduction – making more than the customer needs
- Over processing – unnecessary steps, over design
- Defects – throughout the whole process
- Under-utilisation of resources
You will need help to develop your understanding and skills - you can even achieve training for your own managers in lean construction.
Details of training and further information will be detailed here in due course. Contact: info@buildsw.org.uk
