The Genesis Project is one of the most exciting developments in the further education sector today. Sited at Somerset College in Taunton, Genesis is a £2.5 million educational resource funded by the South West Regional Development Agency (SWRDA) and the Learning and Skills Council.
The Division of Construction at Somerset College is one of the Government's Centres of Vocational Excellence (coVE), and the only one in the country which has received an award with 'sustainability' in its title. A unique feature of the Genesis Project is the Genesis Centre itself - a multi award-winning sustainable building, design by Architype as an educational resource that has helped to support the development and delivery of many of the learning programmes offered through the project. The Genesis Project develops and delivers innovative education and training for, undertakes research on and provides consultancy services for sustainable construction across the new-build, refurbishment and heritage sectors.
The Genesis Centre serves as a facility which helps people across the South West to access information on sustainable construction and which gives them the opportunity to see a wide range of sustainable materials, construction techniques and technologies combined in one building.
