South West Built Environment Awards 2009

A great awards night at this ‘region wide’ event shared between CESW and CIOB

These might be difficult economic times but the huge Bristol Suite at the Bristol Marriott Hotel City Centre was once again full for the SWBE Awards Dinner on Friday 12 June – with representatives from all sectors of the construction industry celebrating its very best achievements.

After a drinks reception for major sponsor Morgan Ashurst, guests were welcomed by Tom Harper, Director of Constructing Excellence South West with Future Foundations, who then handed over to Jess Deacon, CBC Manager, to mark CIOB’s 175th anniversary. The fun then started with host Roy Walker, of Catchphrase fame, a comedian with impeccable timing and spontaneous dry wit, who also introduced the awards after each dinner course.

There were 12 awards this year, judged by a wide ranging panel of industry experts - and some spectacular successes. Cube Design Ltd won two awards for two different entries – Innovation and Project of the Year, while Somerfield Stores won not only Client of the Year but also Best of the Best, selected from all the winners. The Achiever’s Award was once again awarded to two winners for outstanding contributions to the industry in the South West. For a full list of award winners go to Tom Carpenter, son of Andrew and aged only 15, drew huge applause when he sang beautifully in support of this year’s chosen charity, Tourettes Action. After the noisy confetti-strewn finale of the awards ceremony, guests were entertained by top-notch act Madabout the Musicals with some of the best loved songs from the West End stage, followed by Johnny Inferno (aka Andrew Carpenter) providing disco sounds till the small hours.

All in all, this was an inspirational evening for the industry.

Sponsored by: Morgan Ashurst (Major sponsor), Kier Western, Bristol University, NPS South West, Churngold Services, Bristol Constructing Excellence Club, Hill McGlynn, CIOB - Chartered Building Companies & Chartered Building Consultancies, Capita Architecture, Haden Young, Bristol & Region Archaeological Services (BaRAS)
