LABC EVENTS

CESW is co-ordinating FREE Low carbon refurbishment and H&S Training for local small construction companies. The low carbon agenda for the existing housing stock is a major new business opportunity for the local builder and this is a top briefing from key organisations in the industry. CESW and regional partners LABC, BRE, HSE, and Bradfords are pioneering  this in tandem with the NRC initiative. This will take the form of a once a year up-date/yearly dated ‘I’ve been up-dated’ sticker for the back of the van.

The first South West builder to get an 'Up-date 2011' Sticker  on 1st February 2011 after a highly successful 'Up-date' day with 45 local builders getting a cutting edge briefing on their vital part in the low carbon home up-grade programme. Tom Harper Director CESW  said "the event feedback was incredibly positive  - this was a great  briefing from top industry experts and it underlined the vital role of the local builder in helping the consumer up-grade their home and save ££s in energy bills. The important role of LABC cannot be underestimated. They provide local technical back up  and build consumer confidence at a time when so much of this involves pioneering techniques. BRE gave a top briefing on their research and testing of new products and tips from their Innovation Park where new low carbon houses have been built and an existing victorian row of houses has been up-graded, together with information on research carried out at Bath University on renewable materials .This is a true partnership by important players to make certain we get it right. We also included a talk on health and safety because we want this to be foundational on all initiatives. People involved must always have safe working conditions. We are grateful to Bradfords for their support."

Note: This partnership is,  in part, an outworking of the recently formed National Refurbishment Centre where key industry organisations are working to make a step change in this crucial area for carbon reduction.  It is free to attend.
